Aviation project| Optimize SGN airport

I wrote this proposal last year in order to submit for Frech scholarship. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has considerably effected to the aviation market in the world, including Vietnam. But I still want to post it here as reference information for those who are looking for optimizing Tan Son Nhat Airport.

Topic: Proposal on how to optimize the airport capacity in Vietnam

Introduction

The aim of this proposal is to ameliorate the overload situations at major airports in Vietnam and to put forward the recommendations on human resources management.

Current situation

1. Both Noi Bai Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport are in overcapacity, whereas satellite airports have not been in the highest effective operation. Consequently, traffic congestion and dense status stem from those airports. Moreover, manpower at this are performs constant duties, while the others at remaining airports are not fully occupied.

2. Vietnam Aviation Industry is in shortage of highly-qualified professionals to adapt with sustainable development. As a result, it is obligated to hire a certain number of foreign experts, such as Pilots, Operation Manager, Technical Specialists, etc.

How to tackle the problems

I suggest that we minimize the number of direct routes from and to two main airports, and share the workload on transportation to nearby airports instead. Also, the construction of a new airport or a specific terminal of low-cost airlines is recommendable. The research on such an alternative should be carefully and in-depth conducted during my study. The research could be comparison research among leading airport worldwide and study how they deal with this problem.

Furthermore, we should also try to attract academically gifted students to provide professional training. I recommend to form scholarship funds to support students and training institutes or send potential individuals to complete their education at aviation-related prestigious universities.

Anticipated effectiveness

Regarding the overcapacity, the workload at central airports could be alleviated, together with the consolidation of airport exploitation at proximities. Furthermore, congestions at terminals of two mentioned airports are expected to reduce as well as the in-duty workload to be shared with other regional airports.

With respect to Human Resources, we could independently perform on daily operation from technical maintenance to administrative duties without relying on expats.

Conclusion

Inadequate developments and insufficient high-quality manpower at airports will trigger delays, financial deficiencies and inefficiency on operation. Nonetheless, not only do the flight routes cut, but also, I highly recommend to gravitate the in-depth trainings toward competent individuals.
