Tet Trung Thu 2020 – Mid-autumn Festival

Every Vietnamese child dreams about an amazing Tết Trung Thu with his or her own brightly lit lantern and a belly full of mooncakes. Tết Trung Thu or Mid-autumn Festival is also known in Vietnam as the “Children’s Festival”. This year, the Mid-autumn Festival was held October 1, 2020, in the middle of the eighth lunar month, however, preparations begin far in advance. Here’s how I make the most of this magical holiday for the children in my hometown.

This is a star lantern made by me and my friends, but I forgot to take some pictures about how we make it step by step. We usually use bamboo-body trees as the main material combined with a few coloured plastic papers and other decoration patterns. There are many shapes of type lanterns depending on each people preference such as yellow fish, boats, butterflies and the like. The original one is star shape which we decided to do this year. On the night of the full moon, children bearing these brightening lanterns tour around roads.

Annually, my house yard was chosen to become the stage of this event. This day, my dad and other parents carefully prepared one of the nicest stage with a meaningful hope that children can have many joyful moments at night. Everything seems to be ready for welcoming special guests.

When the sun set, children wearing their most beautiful clothes was starting to gather at my house.

Each of them brought their own lanterns. Some electrical lights were become the priority for kids under 6 years old, because some music have been attacked on this device.

A lovely one

6:30 pm| the number of children were increasing rapidly. They have a sit waiting for important minutes. Several little boys couldn’t more patient and start to make some noise, so we have to share them some candies and small cakes in order to keep them calm.

Well, this is one the hardest job I ever made in my life.

My dad is reading the script for his talk. My dog also enjoys, he lays out there during the whole event.

The most crucial part of the night is sharing present bags included candies, moon cake, jelly, cakes to each guess.

After, we also go around our village. Unfortunately, my phone was out of battery to capture these moments. However, I can see many joys and happiness in each face of children and parents. Thank you for coming and see you on next year.

I hope on next year I am able to come back hometown from France to reproduce this night for them. Love you alls
