Career path in aviation

Tonight I read an amazing article on Facebook that could be useful for someone looking for a job in the aviation field. I put the link at the bottom page.

The paper is coppied from Mr. Julien Martinson

How to start a career at the airport or airline?

Aviation : nouvelles normes environnementales – Des ailes et des hélices

Over the past few days, younger aviation (#aviation) enthusiasts expressed interest in careers in aviation. One needs to build a career on a strong interest that is fueled by passion. The aviation industry can be divided into four main groups; airport, airport suppliers, airline, and airline suppliers. Each country will have its unique requirements and policies which pave the way for a successful career (#career) planning and development. However, aviation is global. Therefore, I would like to put some light on this subject area.

Airports (#airport#airports) and airlines (#airline#airlines) require a variety of skills, from navigational (#airnaviation), mechanical, operations, customer service, logistics, legal & international law, accounting, human resources, culinary specialists, wildlife and environmental specialists, linguistics, maintenance, and engineering just to name a few. However, the industry has easy access to lower skills set labor market. The positions that are the hardest to fill are the S.T.E.M. related careers (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Traditionally, parents encouraged boys to choose related S.T.E.M. careers, while girls were encouraged to study arts (like interior décor, culinary studies) which to led female-dominated careers. The current global pandemic (#pandemic) has defiantly temporality changed the aviation employment environment. The aviation industry will return to normal once the global pandemic is over, political will is returned and passenger confidence and volume return.

However, certain career (#career#pilot#cabincrew#flightcrew) fields within aviation have a large gender imbalance. This has resulted in 96% male pilots. There aren’t many females who choose to become pilots, air traffic controllers (#airtrafficcontroller#pilots#pilottraining), or aircraft mechanics. These career paths can be completed by both genders. The aviation industry made enormous efforts to bridge this gap by hosting a “Bring Your Daughter to Work” day or hosting pilot recruiting fairs for girls who show interest in this field. Several airlines show gender equality leadership and celebrate female’s accomplishment in aviation by hosting an all-female flight. The pilots, flight attendants, ramp agents, and ground service specialists are all female. Now is a good time to study aviation careers, because there will be many who choose to retire and leave aviation due to the pandemic. The careers that are the most challenging to fill are Pilot, Air Traffic Control, Aircraft Mechanic, and Aviation Business Manager. Because of my personal career development, interests, and academic background, I have chosen to continue my studies with a Post Graduate Certificate in Aviation Management, which will lead to a Masters diploma. Many of my Facebook followers are interested in working at the airport or for an airline. What are aviation career trends and requirements? Firstly, to work at the airport in Canada, or anywhere one must have a clean criminal record. The aviation industry is highly regulated. Therefore, airlines and airports require working permits for the local country and a RAIC (Restricted Access Identification Card) issued by Transport Canada, for any employment within Canada within the restricted area. The ability to speak two or more languages is an asset when applying for passenger facing positions like a flight attendant, customer service, airside bus driver, etc. The pandemic has lowered the demand for current air travel, which has affected many job openings. I fundamentally believe that passenger numbers will return in two to four years. Both IATA and ICAO have made projects on the aviation industry outlook. Here are some links for further information.

Whether you choose to work on the ground or in the air, careers in aviation will soar once again. The industry attracted people who are globally-minded, well-traveled and educated from a variety of nationalities and languages. Those people who approach their careers with strong diplomas will have better career prospects and job openings. I am open to answer any further questions, however, please refrain from asking personal questions. I invite aviation enthusiasts to follow me on Facebook or Instagram.
